The Bürgerstiftung München (own spelling: BürgerStiftung) was founded in January 2000. It is a recognized non-profit foundation under civil law. Until 2007 it was called “Community Foundation for Sustainable Munich”. The BürgerStiftung München is operationally committed to promoting its own projects, as well as promoting it by participating in the financing and successful implementation of external projects. The BürgerStiftung München also looks after the “Music for Life” foundation in trust.

Mission statement

The Munich Community Foundation promotes sustainable urban development in Munich. Social justice, ecological and economic responsibility in a global context are their guiding principles. It strengthens personal responsibility, community spirit and participation of the citizens. It contributes to activating the experience and competence of many citizens for the creation of coexistence in the urban area.

It enables material and immaterial resources of the citizens to be made available for a common good-oriented development in the city. The foundation organizes events and is networked with various cooperation partners.

Projects

In general, projects are often carried out in cooperation with other foundations.

In addition, the following cross-annual projects were continued:

  • KUKS children, art and school (together with the trust foundation "Musik zum Leben", see below)
  • Job mentoring Munich
  • Network of Munich school sponsors
  • Foundation initiative for urban gardening
  • Sustainability award for graduation theses

"50/50 Matching Fund"

Under certain conditions, the foundation doubles the existing own funds for projects with funds from the Agenda 21 pot of the Department for Health and Environment of the City of Munich . With this so-called "50/50 Matching Fund", the project executing agency itself contributes 50% of the project costs from non-urban funds. The BürgerStiftung München selects the projects according to defined sustainability criteria. In consultation with the city, it checks the applications, advises, networks, is responsible for and manages the projects. Occasionally she also helps financially. Funding criteria and project application can be found on the official website.

Trust Foundation "Music for Life"

The trust foundation “Music for Life” was set up in January 2007 under the umbrella of the BürgerStiftung München. The foundation promotes measures that aim to bring music and art closer to children and young people who are socially or in other matters disadvantaged, thereby awakening and strengthening their personal strength, creativity and social skills. As part of the main project of the trust foundation "KUKS - Children, Art and School", further sub-projects are being supervised.
