The BAE Replica was a design study of a stealth aircraft for the Royal Air Force to develop a successor to the Tornado GR.4 . The program may represent the FOAS-2 solution of the Future Offensive Air System , although there is no official confirmation for this. The Replica Project ran from 1994 to 1999, producing at least a 1: 1 model of a prototype for radar testing that was seen at the BAE Warton test site in 2014. It is not known whether an airworthy specimen was built, but is rather unlikely due to the relatively short duration of the project. The replica's experience was later used to develop the Lockheed Martin F-35 , which will now at least partially replace the Tornado.

The replica was designed as a two - engine two-seater, which was very similar to the American Northrop YF-23 . In particular, the striking V-tail unit, which combines the elevator and rudder to avoid angle reflections, is strongly reminiscent of the YF-23.
