BAH 1

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BAH 1 was the first German submarine station.

The underwater station BAH 1 in the Nautineum Stralsund (2008)

It got its name from the owner, the Biological Institute Helgoland (BAH), for which it was built in 1968 by the Babcock company from Oberhausen .

The station was first used in the summer of 1968 in the Flensburg Fjord . In 1968/69 it served the BAH for research work on the seabed and was used in water up to 47 meters deep. Much experience from the mission was taken into account in the construction of the “Helgoland” underwater laboratory .

After 1969 the station stood on the site of the Geological Institute of the Clausthal University of Technology . In 2003 it was given on permanent loan to the German Oceanographic Museum in Stralsund and has since been exhibited in the open space in the Nautineum Stralsund . Here it was restored in 2006. From August 2016 the BAH-1 was awarded to the Westphalian State Museum in Münster for one year .
