Ludbreg ( German  Lubring ) is a city and an administrative municipality in northwestern Croatia in the region of Central Croatia . It is halfway between the towns of Varaždin and Koprivnica on the left bank of the Bednja in the Podravina (Drau Valley). According to the 2011 census, the city has 8,478 inhabitants.

Administratively, the city of Ludbreg belongs to the Varaždin County ( Croatian Varaždinska županija ).

Ludbreg has been known as a place of pilgrimage for centuries and is visited by thousands of pilgrims year after year. The city was first mentioned in 1320 as Castrum Ludbreg. The name probably comes from a crusader named Lobring who founded the settlement. A recognized restoration workshop is located in the renovated castle of the Batthyány ( Croatian Baćan ) family . Ludbreg is also a wine region (especially for Riesling and Graševina).
