Sara Kolak (born June 22, 1995 in Ludbreg ) is a Croatian javelin thrower and Olympic champion .

Athletic career

Sara Kolak gained her first international experience in 2012 at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 48.15 m. In 2013, she set a new national record of 57.79 m at the European Junior Championships in Rieti at the age of 18 and won the bronze medal. She also won the bronze medal at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene with 55.74 m and also took part in the European Championships in Zurich for the first time, where she was eliminated in qualification with 52.51 m.

After missing the 2015 season due to an injury, Kolak opened the 2016 Olympic year with a competition in Slovenia, where she became the first Croatian ever to surpass the 60-meter mark. During the year Kolak improved the Croatian national record four more times and reached the Olympic standard of 62 meters required by the IAAF . At the European Championships in Amsterdam at the beginning of July , she won the bronze medal behind the Belarusian Tazzjana Chaladowitsch and Linda Stahl from Germany with a throw of 63.50 m . In August she started at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as an outsider, but this time she was able to improve again to 66.18 m and thus won the second gold medal in athletics for Croatia at these games alongside Sandra Perković . In 2017 she took part in the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where she lived up to her role as favorite and won with a throw of 65.12 m. At the World Championships in London she reached the final and had to be content with fourth place with 64.95 m.

Kolak came with the usual strong performance was after an injury in 2018 again deny any competitions, June 2019 and reached at the World Championships in Doha , the final in which they with 62.28 m came in seventh.

From 2012 to 2014 and 2016, Kolak was the Croatian javelin champion.
