BANCStar is a special programming language that was used in the 1990s to handle electronic data processing in bank branches. It was operated by National Financial Computer Services Inc. and later by Broadway & Seymour, a Charlotte, North Carolina company that specializes in business software solutions. In 1996 the replacement of BANCStar was announced.
Although it has been used professionally, it is very similar to an esoteric programming language . For example, in version 5.1c, only the digits 0 to 9, the comma, the minus sign and line breaks were allowed. Empty lines are also not allowed, and a period (.) Causes the compiler to crash. There is no way to comment on the program code .
BANCStar allowed a maximum of 2000 variables and constants , and they are all global . Everything that was displayed on the screen or printed on a form had to be declared as a constant, which is why these storage spaces were used very sparingly. In addition, the variables could only be distinguished by a number, which is why they were adopted from other program blocks for the sake of simplicity, and at the end of the block they were reset to the values specified in the working group.
