The series EL 79 of the operation for mining equipment Aue (BBA) called Akkumulatorlokomotiven , the 1979-1989 for the mining operations of Wismut were built.

development

The EL 79 is an EL 71 extended by two more battery packs . The background for the development was to achieve an increase in performance under the same operating conditions. When the EL 79 was built, locomotives from the EL 61 series as well as the B 660 series were used. That is why there are different dimensions and data without different type designations.

Constructive features

mechanics

The six drive units had an outer frame, which was the supporting structure. The driver's cab was hung as a litter between the battery tenders. It was carried out with a welded frame. The locomotive had a manual spindle brake as a parking brake. The braking force was transmitted to the drive units via a cable. The outer battery tenders did not have a brake. The middle battery tender was a special construction with a swivel joint on each end. Compared to the EL 71, the suspension of the driver's cab was reinforced. The driver's cab itself was higher in order to have a better view of the long locomotive.

Electrics

Each of the twelve axles was driven by a cradle bearing drive motor . Two of the six batteries were connected in series. The three row blocks were then connected in parallel. When starting up, the direct current series motors of the three blocks are first connected in series and then in parallel via resistors. The travel and braking levels can be selected with the cam switch. The drive switch of the LEW EL 6 was used .
