BLIS (medicine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BLIS ( English bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances , bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances ') are small proteinogenic toxins ( protein molecules ) with antibiotic properties that have an inhibitory effect similar to those produced by some types of bacteria (such as the so-called "good" streptococci Salivarius K12).

They can be useful against some types of streptococcus as part of bacterial replacement therapy by helping to prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease . They can also be useful for building up the intestinal flora after antibiotic or antifungal treatment.
