When, after the end of the Second World War, all sports clubs in the Eastern Zone were banned and sports competitions were initially only allowed in a limited regional area, loosely organized sports groups or sports communities (SG) emerged from 1946 onwards. In the Saxon city of Chemnitz, five SG's played for the regional championship in 1946/47 in the Chemnitz soccer district. Among them was SG Chemnitz-Gablenz, which finished third after 20 point games. A fourth place followed in 1947/48 and a third again in 1948/49.

On July 1, 1949, the SG Chemnitz-Gablenz was converted into the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Konsum Chemnitz. As such, she reached the final of the Saxon Football Cup in the same year, which she lost 4-1 to BSG Stahlwerk Riesa . As a finalist, however, BSG Konsum was eligible to participate in the 1949 FDGB Cup competition across the East Zone . After an elimination game with two teams, the cup competition continued with the quarter-finals, in which the Chemnitz team met the Thuringian Cup winner BSG Gera-Süd . After a 1-1 draw after extra time, a replay was due, which BSG Konsum Chemnitz lost 3-0 on their own spot.

Since Konsum Chemnitz had only reached ninth place in the western season of the Saxony Championship in 1949/50, the BSG only played in the fourth-class district class Chemnitz in the 1950/51 season. With 13th place the team was condemned again to relegation, and the BSG was then dissolved.
