BSI OSS Security Suite ( BOSS ) was a compilation of free security software that was made available for download free of charge by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

The software was used to check the security of systems in networks . BOSS essentially built on Nessus , but from version 3.0 also OpenVAS and used it to scan for vulnerable points in any computer in networks. There is also an easy-to-use, German-language graphic interface. Local checks on GNU or Linux computers can also be carried out centrally.

Local security software such as TIGER , John-The-Ripper , Tripwire , lsof , ClamAV Antivirus and Chkrootkit can be controlled with the help of SLAD (Security Local Auditing Daemon) . In this way, target systems can also be checked intensively from the inside for weak points or already successful attacks. The possibility of central control and evaluation should significantly simplify the organization-wide security auditing .

After version 3.0, the software was no longer maintained. Instead, the BSI recommends the use of OpenVAS .
