Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan (also: 8-step praying mantis Kung-Fu ) ( Chinese  八 步 螳螂拳 , Cantonese  Baat Bou Tong Long Kuen ) is a sub- or sub-style of Tang Lang Quan with a greater distribution especially in Taiwan and the United States of America .

History of origin

The Babu Tanglang Quan was developed in the first generation by Jiang Hualong (around 1920). He combined techniques from Baguazhang , Tongbeiquan , Xingyiquan and Meihua Tanglangquan into a new Tanglang style. His first student was Feng Huanyi (* 1879; † unknown), who learned the style completely and later passed it on. According to Feng Huanyi, Wei Xiao Tang (* 1901, † 1984) was the only one to learn the complete Babu Tanglang style, which further refined it with principles from the Wu style of Taijiquan and made it known above all in Taiwan . Wei Xiao-Tang is considered to be the real “father and creator” of today's Babu Tanglang style. The Babu Tanglang is best known in Taiwan and the USA .

Style criteria

Unlike the older Tang Lang Quan styles, the Babu Tanglang style consists of only about 11 hand shapes and a few partner shapes. The heart of this curriculum are the 6 "essence" forms: Zhai Yao 1-6. Despite the traditional techniques, the principles are strongly reminiscent of the principles from internal martial arts (Neijia). There are some forms of weapon, for example with the broadsword ( Dao ), the stick (Gun) or the Chinese sword ( Jian ).
