The German Catholic Mission Council (DKMR) was an amalgamation of all institutions and organizations of the Catholic Church in Germany that are committed to mission , development and peace (mission agencies, mission institutes, mission orders and congregations, mission departments of the dioceses). It was disbanded in 2012.

Members

Members were: 27 German dioceses and jurisdictions, represented by the missio diocesan directors, mission officers and commissioners, 10 papal or episcopal works for the universal church (e.g. Adveniat , Misereor , Missio Aachen / Munich, Kindermissionswerk etc.), 8 mission institutes (e.g. Medical Mission Institute Würzburg ; Catholic Institute for Mission Theological Basic Research, RAPTIM and others), 56 missionary orders of priests and brothers and 91 missionary orders of women.

history

On September 13, 1953, the mission orders merged with the Pontifical Mission Societies in Germany to form the Catholic Mission Council; the Episcopal Works for the Universal Church were also added after its foundation. After the Second Vatican Council , this Catholic Mission Council was expanded to include the mission departments of the then 22 German dioceses and transformed into the German Catholic Mission Council (DKMR). Since the reunification of Germany in 1989, the dioceses and jurisdictions of the new federal states with their mission departments have also belonged to the DKMR.

Mission statement

The DKMR saw itself as a platform for a comprehensive formation of opinion and awareness as well as an advisory and coordination body in the service of the Catholic Church in Germany . In this respect, he supported those responsible in the Church in their task of offering spiritual guidance and human help to people in the conflicts of our time, with advice and action. He wanted to help keep the concerns of mission, development and peace alive in the consciousness of the local church. With this in mind, the DKMR sought and promoted forms of partnership with the local churches of other countries and cultures. It was about sharing in the sense of the mission of Jesus , faith and hope , but also personal and material resources.
