Bach House Koethen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bachhaus Köthen is the home of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach during his stay in Köthen (Anhalt) from 1717 to 1723 .

It is very likely that he first lived at Schalaunische Strasse 44 from December 1717 to 1719, until the new building at Wallstrasse 25/26 was completed, then he moved into this new building.

Köthen therefore had two Bach houses. Today there is a department store built in 1968 at Schalaunische Straße 44 (contact department store, later Fischer's department store, currently drugstore and bakery), which is also building over the Holzmarkt 10 property. The second still stands today as part of the St. Elisabeth nursing home in the middle of the Köthen baroque quarter.

The Bachhaus in Köthen has been searched for since the end of the 19th century. A study from 2006 to 2008, funded by the European Union , brought together all available information, especially from original documents, literature, the lap register of the city of Köthen , and fed it into a semantic network . With the help of the elimination process, all potential Bach houses were examined. In particular, bibliometrics has been used to examine and reevaluate historians' lines of argument.
