Bachläger waterfall (May 2009)

The Bachläger waterfall in Grindelwald is part of the Milibach , which begins at the outlet of the Bachalpsee (2265 m above sea level) and flows in the valley into the Schwarze Lütschine (1020 m above sea level). Above the waterfall, the water flows through a moor landscape of national importance . The water falls as a waterfall in several rock steps from 1950 m above sea level. M. at 1780 m above sea level. M.

The waterfall is particularly attractive in spring and early summer. During this time the flow rate is around 500 l / s. In late summer and autumn, depending on the precipitation situation, significantly less water flows, which means that the waterfall is always given a new character. In winter, the partially frozen waterfall forms bizarre and gorgeous ice formations.

The construction of a small hydropower plant has been planned at the Bachläger waterfall since 2009 ; the project is very controversial. A petition was drawn up against the planned construction. It was the first case in the history of Grindelwald that a large group of citizens made use of the petition.

As part of a media briefing by BKW FMB Energie AG on November 17, 2010, Martin Pfisterer, President of sol-E Suisse AG and member of the management team of BKW FMB Energie AG, stated the following (quotation from the text of the presentation): In the case of the Bort small hydropower plant In Grindelwald an uncompromising opposition, broadly supported in the village, emerged. The project, which can be implemented according to cantonal specifications, is met with fierce opposition, primarily for reasons of landscape protection and tourism. BKW has decided not to continue working on this project under the given circumstances. If interests and needs change, the resumption of the project at a later point in time cannot be ruled out.
