Backhaus (Gemünden (Taunus))

Bakehouse

The bakery in Gemünden (Taunus) is a listed cultural monument .

The small half-timbered house in the street Am Sattelbach (no house number) on the corner of Usingen Straße dates from the 1930s according to the findings of the local historian Brono Rühl (deviating from this, the monument topography indicates the age “probably 19th century”). Originally the house was used as a syringe house and the syringe trolley at that time was parked in the 12 m² house. At the rear was a telegraph pole with a hand-operated siren attached. This is now owned by the fire brigade.

In 1959, the village community center with an attached fire-fighting equipment house was built. The fire brigade moved out of the old building with their device. It was now used as a milk collection point by the newly established milk cooperative. In 1968, 8,800 liters of milk per day were collected and passed on to the dairy in Weilmünster . After the end of this use, the then home and tourist association received the house for use and used it as a warehouse. The rural women have been using the house since 2005 and have set up a bakery there.

A small side wing containing the cattle scale was added to the building.

Since the house was historically not used as a bakery , the name of the building is misleading. Since 1928 a former chapel from the 16th century has been converted into a bakery. This was increased in 1948 and used as the town hall.
