Bad Egart

Bad Egart in Partschins , South Tyrol , is the oldest bathing establishment in Tyrol. The bathhouse is under ensemble protection, the associated "Bad Egart" chapel is a listed building.

history

According to local researcher Josef Thaler, the name Bad Egart derives from Egerietum, Egeretum from the Roman spring nymph Egeria . As early as 1430, the bathroom was of great value and use . Around 1730 it was rebuilt by its owner at the time, Wolf von Wolfenthal zu Spauregg and Gaudententhurm, and the associated "Bad Egart" chapel also dates from this time. The bathhouse was brought into its present form in 1824. It now had four bathing cabins with two bathtubs each on the ground floor, the restaurant was on the first floor and eleven double rooms were on the upper floor. With the establishment of the Vinschger Bahn in 1906, the Badl was now also easy to reach from Merano , the train station on the Töll is directly adjacent. In 1956 the baths were closed. In 1980, Bad Egart was reopened as a restaurant and museum by Karl Platino.

The sources

The "sulfur spring" rises directly below the bathhouse and was used for bathing. It used to have water only between June and September, but since the 2001 earthquake it has flowed year-round. She is called "Nymph Egeria" at the Office for Water Use of the Province of Bolzano. The "iron source" was used for drinking cures. The "birch spring", which rises in the forest above ( 46 ° 40 ′ 12.3 ″  N , 11 ° 4 ′ 51.1 ″  E ), is approved as mineral water.
