Badister bullatus is a beetle from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae). The beetle is also known as the common wandering beetle , the wandering beetle or the two-tone wandering beetle .

features

Badister bullatus is the smallest representative with a red and yellow pronotum of the genus Badister in Central Europe. The beetles are 4.8–6 mm long. The head is black. The label is also black. The lateral edges of the wing covers are approximately parallel. On the red-yellow wing there is a black crescent-shaped spot at the back, which is rounded at the front.

distribution

The species is widespread in Europe. It is common in Central Europe. In the north it is distributed to central Norway and central Sweden. Badister bullatus is also widespread and common in the UK . To the east, the occurrence extends into the Caucasus .

Way of life

The beetles prefer dry grasslands , moderately dry ruderal areas, hedges and forest edges as well as swampy areas. The beetles hatch in autumn and hibernate.
