Badminton Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Badminton Association was the first national and later international administrative organization in the sport of badminton worldwide. The association went in 1934 into the Badminton Association of England and the International Badminton Federation .

history

The association was founded on September 12, 1893 by 14 clubs to create uniformity in the badminton rules. At this point in time, a badminton field could differ in length by up to three meters, for example. Colonel SSC Dolby, who became the first president and was also Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary, did great service to the association. Initially, the association's growth was low, later the number of member clubs increased rapidly. The clubs in Ireland and Scotland have since founded their own associations, but were also members of the Badminton Association. In 1914 the association counted 467 clubs, in 1923 550 clubs and in 1934 it was close to the 1000 mark.
