Badplats

Badplats

In Swedish, a badplats is an area on a freely accessible lake, river or stretch of sea that can be used for water-related leisure activities.

The Swedish Badplats is characterized by a basic equipment with signage, lifebuoy, parking as well as a jetty or another possibility to reach the water. More convenient facilities offer rubbish bins, changing rooms, slip and possibly a kiosk (depending on the season). Naturist facilities are signposted separately. Every Badplats is signposted in detailed maps (Motormännens Vägatlas över Sverige etc.). In the sense of the unwritten Swedish public rights , the right to free access to seas, lakes and rivers is satisfied.

The difference to public bathing establishments especially of German characteristics is the free access, the lack of general regulations (only local individual regulations) and the folk-cultural importance and the nationwide existence in Sweden. That is why the Badplats cannot be compared with an outdoor pool or a natural pool .
