Rostock seaport depot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rostock Seehafen railway depot (short Bw Rostock Seehafen ), since 1997 known as the Rostock Seehafen depot (short Bh Rostock Seehafen ) with the internal abbreviation WRS , is operated by DB Cargo AG with around 70 employees and serves as a branch of the Seddin depot for maintenance of diesel and electric locomotives and freight cars. It was built between 1964 and 1966 on the west side of the marshalling yard on the Rostock – Rostock Seaport North railway line by the Reichsbahndirektion Schwerin and was originally intended for the maintenance of shunting diesel locomotives. For this reason it was also called "Diesel-Bw".

history

The first newly built depot for diesel locomotives at the Deutsche Reichsbahn received a 72-meter-long, two-track repair hall with an overhead crane and four- spindle axle, as well as a locomotive treatment system with a gas station, sanding system, locomotive inspection pits and water intake . Furthermore, a three-storey social building with a canteen, engine management, changing rooms and offices was built on the site.

The modern equipment made it possible right from the start that, in addition to the maintenance of the shunting diesel locomotives located in the depot, mainline locomotives could also be repaired.

After the opening on June 30, 1966, locomotives of the series V 15 20 , V 36 and V 60 10 were initially stationed there. Two years later, the V 60 12 series was added to replace the V 36 . Locomotives of the classes 102 1 and 105 or 106 2–9 followed in the mid-1970s . From 1982 the depot also had the 111 series .

After reunification, the Bw quickly lost its importance and was assigned to the Rostock depot as a deployment site on February 1, 1994 . In 1997, Deutsche Bahn AG converted the site back into an independent depot and on January 1, 1999 transferred responsibility to DB Cargo AG. This then modernized and expanded the depot and has been using the facilities for the maintenance and repair of rail vehicles ever since.
