Bath Spa Railway Station
Bath Spa is a train station in the British city of Bath . It was opened in 1840 by the Great Western Railway , lies on the important Great Western Main Line and is now served by trains from the companies First Great Western and South West Trains . In the 2004/05 operating year, 3.726 million passengers used the station.
The station building designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel is built in an asymmetrical Tudor style with curved gables and is a listed building . It stands on the north bank of the River Avon ; the line was built to cross the river at both ends of the station. The station underpass leads directly to a (formerly toll) footbridge over the river to the Widcombe district.
Green Park station was about half a mile to the northwest on the Midland Railway route . It opened in 1869 and closed in 1966. Since then, all trains have been running through Bath Spa.
