history

The station was opened on February 14, 1904 by the Great Northern & City Railway (GN&CR), on the connection between Finsbury Park and Moorgate . With the exception of Drayton Park station and a former depot, which are located in a deep cut, the route was underground. The new route was to be used by express and suburban trains of the Great Northern Railway on a direct route to the City of London , which is why the clearance profile of the tunnel tube was significantly wider than that of the subways. From 1913 to 1933 the line was part of the Metropolitan Line , after the nationalization an independently operated branch of the Northern Line .

Although the Victoria Line does not stop at Drayton Park, the construction of the new tube line had a major impact on the operation of the station. The tunnel section north of Drayton Park was closed on October 3, 1964 to allow the construction of the new Finsbury Park underground station. For eleven years, Drayton Park was the northern terminus of the Northern City Line. On October 4, 1975, the entire route was temporarily closed and transferred to the state railway company British Rail . On August 8, 1976, Drayton Park station reopened, and exactly three months later the entire route between Finsbury Park and Moorgate. After the privatization of British Rail in 1994, WAGN took over the operation, and First Capital Connect has been responsible since April 1, 2006.
