The Horka Gbf station ("Horka Güterbahnhof") is an operating point on the Węgliniec – Roßlau (Elbe) railway line and the branch line to Rothenburg (Upper Lusatia) that branches off here . It is located in the municipality of Horka in Saxony . Horka Gbf is a border station for goods traffic with the Republic of Poland, there are no tourist traffic facilities.

history

Horka already had a loading point when operations opened on June 1, 1874. The connecting line to the Berlin – Görlitz line has existed since July 1, 1880.

The freight yard was expanded to the present day from 1905 to 1907 as part of the double-track expansion of the Kohlfurt – Roßlau line. At that time, a drainage mountain was also created in order to be able to break up trains and create new ones. The Horka – Rothenburg – Priebus small railway, which opened in 1907, was connected to the station via a short connecting track exclusively used for freight traffic.

After the Second World War, the station was located directly on the newly drawn Oder-Neisse border with the People's Republic of Poland . From then on, the Deutsche Reichsbahn used the station as a border station, where the handovers of goods to and from the Polish State Railways (PKP) were handled. In addition to the customs controls, the locomotive changes between the two railway administrations also took place in Horka Gbf. The track triangle at the angle of the lines to Rothenburg and Węgliniec was remarkable , which was used because of the lack of a turntable to turn the locomotives with tenders .

In 1976, 14 cross-border freight trains in both directions were handled in Horka Gbf every day. A special situation arose during the period of martial law in Poland (1981–1983). Until 1986, all trains were driven with DR locomotives to and from Węgliniec.

With the accession of the Republic of Poland to the European Union (2004) and the associated abolition of customs controls, the station lost its special function in cross-border traffic. Only the locomotive changes still take place.

The high-rise buildings of the station are listed. The station building, the water tower and the locomotive shed are important in terms of railway and local history.
