The Ignalina train station ( lit. Ignalinos Gelezinkelio stotis ) is a train station in the Lithuanian district town Ignalina in the Utena district . It is operated by the Lithuanian State Railways Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai and is not far from the Aukštaitija National Park . There is a children's summer camp at Lake Gavio near the train station. In 2006, a 720-meter-long, 600-millimeter narrow-gauge railway was built there. The project costs were around 435,000 euros. It is planned to extend the line to Ignalina station.
history
From 1857 to 1862 the Warsaw-Petersburg railway was built. On September 14, 1860, the Pskov - Vilnius section , on which Ignalina lies, was opened. The station and settlement did not exist when the railway opened. The Russian government bought after the opening of the track, the surrounding land the estate owner Ignas Kaminski and gave them free for colonization. The resulting settlement grew into the town of Ignalina .
