List of train stations in Japan |
The Jiyūgaoka Station ( Jap. 自由が丘駅 , Jiyugaoka-eki ) is located in Meguro in Tokyo , Japan . The station is on the Tōyoko and Ōimachi lines , which intersect here. Both lines are operated by the Tōkyū . In 2008, an average of almost 140,000 people used the station every day.
history
The station of today's Tōyoko Line was opened on August 28, 1927. On November 1, 1929, the Ōimachi line also went into operation. The lines were electrified from the start.
From 2005 to 2007 escalators were installed in the station. From March 28, 2008, express trains ran on the Ōimachi line, for which the platforms had to be lengthened because 6-car sets were to be used. With the start of continuous operation of the Tōyoko line on the Fukutoshin line of the Tōkyō Metro , which is planned for 2012, the platforms of this line will also be extended to provide space for 10-car trains.
Type of construction and tracks
The station is designed as a tower train station. On the lower level, the Ōimachi line trains stop at two outside platforms. To the west of the station there is a track change and two sidings on this line. The upper level of the Tōyoko line, which runs on a viaduct, has two island platforms. Usually the trains use the middle tracks. The outer tracks are used for train overhauls by express trains, which take place here as scheduled. Several Tōkyū buses stop in front of the station.
