The Kętrzyn station ( German  Rastenburg ) is the station of the city of Kętrzyn , a district town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

history

With the opening of the railway line from Białystok to Bartenstein on November 1, 1867, the East Prussian town of Rastenburg was connected to the railway network. A year later this line was extended to Lyck and in 1907 a connection to Angerburg was put into operation.

The station had five main tracks, of which track 3 on the house platform only led towards Angerburg.

There were also sidings that led to the loading yard, the warehouses and various ramps. In the direction of Białystok, a small railway depot with a turntable and a circular shed was built.

In 1945, after the end of the Second World War , the city of Rastenburg fell to Poland and was called Rastembork . On May 7, 1946, the Poles chose the new name Kętrzyn for the city after Wojciech Kętrzyński . As a result of this renaming, the station was also called Kętrzyn on September 1, 1946 .

With the cessation of passenger traffic to Węgorzewo ( German  Angerburg ) on May 1, 1992 , track 3 in front of the station building was interrupted. The passenger trains depart from platform 1 in normal operation.

The train movements are controlled by two signal boxes , Kn from Giżycko and Kn1 from Korsze . The station is fully equipped with mechanical signals.

In front of the train station are numerous bus stops for the regular buses to the region as well as for the two city bus routes.

In 2013, the city took over the station building from the Polish State Railways PKP , and extensive renovation work began in 2014. The work is estimated at around three million zlotys and should be completed by November 10, 2014.
