Charles B. Burdick

Charles Burton Burdick (* 1927 , † 1998 ) was an American military historian . He was a professor at San José State University and namesake of the Charles B. Burdick Military History Collection .

Life

Burdick grew up in San José , California. He attended Lincoln High School and then joined the United States Army . After the Second World War in 1946 he studied history at San José State University (BA 1949 with Dudley Moorhead ). An MA and a Ph.D. (1954) in Modern European History from Stanford University . David Harris was one of his most important teachers . Then he researched u. a. as a Fulbright-Hays PostDoc Scholar in Germany.

In 1957 he became a lecturer in the History Department and in 1976 Department Chair at San José State University. He donated several books on military history from his private collection to the university library. He also taught at the Sixth United States Army Intelligence School in Monterey , California. In 1988 he retired.

He published more than 20 books, including studies on the high command of the Wehrmacht, and was co-editor ( Werner Hahlweg , Johann Christoph Allmayer-Beck , Hans Bleckwenn , Dermot Bradley , Othmar Hackl and Walter Schaufelberger ) of the studies on military history, military science and conflict research established in 1973 Biblio Publishing House .

His name also stands for the extensive Charles B. Burdick Military History Collection .

Burdick was married.
