Railway stations and stops in Saxony |
The Mosel railway station is an operating point of the Dresden – Werdau railway and the former Mosel – Ortmannsdorf narrow-gauge railway on the cadastre of the Moselle district of Zwickau in Saxony .
history
Originally there was only one stop on the Chemnitz – Glauchau – Zwickau section of the Dresden – Werdau line, which was opened in 1858 ; it was only upgraded to a station in 1875. With the construction of the narrow-gauge railway Mosel – Ortmannsdorf , opened in 1885 , the Mosel became a connecting station . The facilities were extensively expanded for this purpose, in addition to an enlargement of the reception building, a narrow-gauge heating house , a new goods shed and other high-rise buildings were built. Since 1893 the Zwickau – Crossen – Mosel industrial line has been flowing into the station.
A secured level crossing crossed the station area until 1900, then an underpass was built due to the sharp increase in traffic on the Dresden – Werdau main line, which still exists today.
In 1951 the narrow-gauge railway was dismantled, but the high-rise buildings of the narrow-gauge railway remained in place for longer. For example, the boiler house was not completely demolished until 1982. Since 1991, the connecting line , which has existed since the 1980s, of today's cardan shaft and Volkswagen factory has been integrated in the eastern part of the station. The remaining part of the industrial line was converted into a rail line for the station on April 30, 1999.
