The Papar station is a through station of the Sabah State Railway in the state of Sabah , Malaysia . It is located at 38.5 km of the single-track line Tanjung Aru - Tenom .

history

The line from Beaufort to Jesselton , today's Kota Kinabalu and the associated facilities was built by George Pauling & Company on behalf of the North Borneo Chartered Company and completed in 1903. Historical photographs in the National Museum of Sabah in Kota Kinabalu show that the train stations at that time usually consisted of a thatched wooden hut.

In 2007 the entire line was out of service for maintenance and repair work. In this context, all stations on the Tanjung Aru-Beaufort section were renovated or rebuilt in a uniform style. The railway line was reopened on February 21, 2011.

Investments

The station building, which was completely renovated during the renovation of the Tanjung Aru – Beaufort section, is located in the city center of Papar . Access to platform 2 is via a pedestrian overpass.

The station has an electrically powered turntable and a small depot for the construction department of the Sabah State Railway.

A water storage tank and a water crane are available to operate the historic Vulcan steam locomotive .

The railway bridge over the Papar River is just 150 meters from the train station. Despite some repairs and renovations in recent years, the appearance of the railway bridge has not changed since World War II. It played a certain role in the Allied plans to retake northern Borneo from the Japanese. References to the bridge and the Papar River can be found in reports on the Agas and Semut intelligence operations and later in the attack plans for Operations Stallion and Oboe 6 .
