The station Penig is an operating agency of the railway line Glauchau Wurzen and the earlier opening out here rochlitz-penig railway on the territory of the town Penig in Saxony .

history

The station was opened in 1872 together with the Rochlitz – Narsdorf – Penig line as a terminus . The station received quite extensive track systems, a two-tier locomotive shed and the associated locomotive treatment systems.

With the opening of the Muldentalbahn from Glauchau in 1875, the Penig station was initially a through station for a year before it became a separation station with the opening of the section of the Muldentalbahn via Wechselburg to Rochlitz station . Together with the commissioning of the two line sections, the track systems were also expanded.

From now on, the station played an important role in both travel and freight traffic. Three platforms were available for tourist traffic - mainly from rush hour traffic to some large companies in Penig - while goods traffic had a goods shed , a head and side loading ramp and several loading lanes . In the station area, connecting lines branched off to a transmission plant, a rural trading cooperative (BHG) and a slaughterhouse. In addition, there were connecting railways to the Penig paper mill, to the America spinning mill from the open track and a railway-owned rubble site.

In August 1986, the station was out of order for a few days after a storm due to a landslide that flooded the station area with rubble and mud.

After the political change in 1989/1990 , the station quickly lost its importance and the number of passengers carried fell drastically, while freight traffic collapsed completely. As a result, the route to Narsdorf between Penig and Langenleuba-Oberhain was closed in 1990. Freight traffic on the Muldentalbahn was discontinued in 2000 and since the August flood of 2002 there have been no more passenger trains.
