The Raahe Station was from 1889 to 1890 as a temporary terminus of the railway line Tuomioja-Lappi from the private railway corporation rautatieosakeyhtiö Raahen built. The architect is unknown. The station also includes a park with plantings and originally had customs clearance. A three-tier locomotive shed was available for handling the locomotives of the private railway.

history

On August 10, 1899, the Lappi – Tuoioja line was connected to the Seinäjoki – Oulu railway line and the first train reached the station. The ceremonial opening of the station took place on December 5, 1899 on the 250th anniversary of the city of Raahe.

On September 1, 1900, the extension from Raahe to the port in Lapaluoto followed. Other sources speak of September 1, 1968.

After Finland gained independence , the railway line with the station building was taken over by VR-Yhtymä , the state railway company, on February 27, 1926 for a purchase price of 2,600,000  marks . The city bought all the sidings in the port area.

Passenger traffic ceased in the autumn of 1966. In 2001 the route, on which extensive freight traffic to the city's ports continues, was electrified.

Station building

Ticket sales were discontinued in 2010, and in 2013 the station building was transferred to private ownership. It is home to 13 small business owners who produce design products such as jewelry, ceramics, dolls and textiles that are sold on site. There are also gallery rooms and a small café.

The station area with various buildings is a listed building.
