Sandling station is on the South Eastern Main Line , where the Sandgate Branch used to be. It is the closest standard gauge station to Hythe .
In 1960, the station was assigned a camping coach , converted from a Pullman car , and equipped with a kitchen, two sleeping compartments and a room with two single beds.
Originally the Sandling Junction (station called branch ) and had four platform tracks. A platform track was closed when the line to Sandgate was cut to Hythe in 1931. When the line was finally closed in 1951, a second one was closed. The station was then renamed Sandling for Hythe .
