The Vukov spomenik station is the first underground station in the Belgrade railway junction , opened in 1995 , which has been the main station of the Belgrade Beovoz S-Bahn system since 1996 . With a difference in level of 40 m and the 65 m long escalators, it is one of the deepest in Europe.

Building history

The station was designed by Energoprojekt under the direction of civil engineer Zoran Joksović . The civil engineering plans were completed in 1985, the architect Mirjana Lukić was responsible for the plans for the architectural ensemble of the gallery and the railway tracks , completed in 1989. The Vukov spomenik station was opened with pomp and propaganda on July 7, 1995 by the then President of Serbia Slobodan Milošević .

Dimensions

Technical features of the station are the special depth of the railroad tracks, which are 40 m below the surface, and a trip on the 65 m long escalators, which takes a total of 1 min 30 sec. The station is one of the deepest in the world.

The station has five levels, which in addition to the railroad track and the entrance hall also include a shopping center and a large garage with 90 spaces.

The platform area is 2500 m², the station length is 65 m and the vestibule occupies an area of ​​2600 m². In addition, there is the shopping center (today there are internet cafes in particular) with an area of ​​5700 m² and the garage an additional 5280 m².

The Vukov Spomenik station is served by 113 trains every day (June 2011). At the station, which is only served by local trains, 99 compositions are based on BG-Voz sets, the rest on the Beovoz . 12,000 travelers are counted daily at the station, while in 1995 about 20,000 travelers were registered at the station during the opening.

Tourist attraction

The station was already a tourist magnet when it opened and is also visited by foreign delegations on representative occasions.
