Otto Friedrich August Meinardus
Otto Friedrich August Meinardus (born September 29, 1925 in Hamburg ; † September 18, 2005 there ) was a German theologian , coptologist and archaeologist .
Life
Otto Meinardus attended the learned school of the Johanneum in Hamburg , where he passed his school leaving examination in 1945 . From 1945 to 1947 he studied theology at the Church University of Hamburg and at the Philosophical Faculty in Hamburg, from 1947 to 1949 at Richmond College in Surrey ( England ) and then in Boston , where he received his doctorate in 1955. He was 1952-1956 pastor of the Second Congregational Church in Peabody ( Massachusetts ).
From 1956 to 1968 Otto Meinardus stayed in Cairo , where he studied Eastern Church art and early Christian archeology . Since 1957 he was a member of the Société d 'Archeology , in 1959 he was appointed a fellow by the Institute of Coptic Studies . From 1957 to 1968 he was also a pastor at the Maadi Community Church in Cairo. In 1964 he became a member of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, and he was also a professor of theology at the American University .
From 1968 to 1975 he lived in Athens , where, in addition to teaching at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, he was also a pastor at the St. Andrew American Church.
After his return to Germany in 1975 he was pastor at the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Koblenz and Stolberg . He later returned to Hamburg.
