The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA, Greek Αμερικανική Σχολή Κλασικών Σπουδών στην Αθήνα Ameriki Scholi Klasikon Spoudon stin Athina ) is one of 17 foreign archaeological institutes in Athens .

History and activity

It was founded in 1881. It is a private educational institution that provides students, researchers and teachers from affiliated North American colleges and universities with information on all aspects of Greek culture from ancient times to the present day.

The American School's responsibilities include teaching, research, and research publication. It has two specialist libraries: the Blegen Library, which is dedicated to classical antiquity, and the Gennadios Library, which focuses on modern Greek history.

The American School has been responsible for the excavations of Corinth since 1896, and for the excavations of the Athens Agora since 1931 .

The Vienna Laboratory, founded in 1992 (Director: Panagiotis Karkanas ), deals with modern archeology techniques, the Cotsen Hall, opened in 2005, has an auditorium with 352 seats.
