location
The station center is located north of Gelsenkirchen main station as a direct connection and link to Gelsenkirchen's shopping mile - Bahnhofstrasse. The station center can be reached by public transport via the Gelsenkirchen Hauptbahnhof stop , which is directly connected to the station center.
history
The Gelsenkirchen station center was built between 1982 and 1983 to replace the previously demolished station building at Gelsenkirchen main station. The investment was originally EUR 28.8 million. Until the end of November 2005, the station center was roofed almost seamlessly up to Gelsenkirchen main station. Since 2006, in the course of the renovation of the main station and the partial demolition of the roof over the station forecourt, there has been a clear separation between the main station and the station center.
The station center was initially operated by Brune Consulting Management, Düsseldorf. In 2018 it was acquired by concarus Real Estate, which presented it with a new look on October 4, 2019.
Retail, catering and services
The property of the station center covers an area of 8,283 m² and offers a total rental area of 13,224 m² (2,228 m² of which is office space). In the retail sector, there are electronics, food, stationery, gift items, jewelry and confectionery shops, butchers, bakeries and cheese factories as well as snack bars, ice cream parlors, kiosks and restaurants with specialties from different countries. Various service providers, such as travel agencies and the BOGESTRA customer center , are also based in the station center.
Furthermore, the station center offers uniform opening times from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.
