The street has had its name since 1878/79, when the station - today's main station - of the Koblenz-Trier Railway was built and the station square was created. There are also shops in the train station and the Alleencenter shopping center (Ostallee 3–5) with a parking garage. The Post / Postbank (Moltkestrasse 21-23) as well as the Criminal Police Directorate Trier and Criminal Investigation Trier of the police (Kürenzer Strasse 3; converted former post office building) are also located on Bahnhofsplatz.
Cultural monuments
The northern side of Bahnhofstrasse is part of the monument zone Theodor-Heuss-Allee 7–22, Bahnhofstrasse 23–26 . The historic “Reichshof” hotel existed until the early post-war period , but was replaced by a new building in the 1960s. Today only the building at Bahnhofstrasse 23 at the intersection at the Balduin Fountain stands out as defining the cityscape. The building at Bahnhofstrasse 26 is also impressive, with a statue of the Virgin Mary on the facade.
