Trier-Mitte / Gartenfeld is one of the 19 districts of the city of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate . It consists of the city districts of Trier-Mitte and Gartenfeld. The eligible population (December 31, 2005) in the old town area is: 9766 people and in the garden field area: 3073 people.

Trier-Mitte describes the historical core of the city of Trier, which is often simply called the city center or old town by the population and is surrounded by today's Alleenring, along the original medieval city wall. For a long time there were various orchards and vineyards in the area east of the city walls. This garden field was only developed as a residential area from the second half of the 19th century . Today's border between the city districts of Mitte (old town) and Gartenfeld runs along the railway line. The southern parts of the Trier main station and the entire railway line up to the level of Güterstraße 9 are still completely in the Gartenfelder area. Then the city district border gradually swings a few meters to the east until the two western tracks, from about the level of Güterstrasse 1 and south of Gartenfeldbrücke , belong to the city district Mitte and only the eastern, third track to Gartenfeld. Today's local district Trier-Mitte / Gartenfeld borders in the west on the district Trier-West / Pallien , in the north on Trier-Nord , in the northeast on Trier-Kürenz , in the southeast on Trier-Olewig and in the south on Trier-Heiligkreuz and Trier- South .

Numerous buildings from Roman times were discovered in Trier-Mitte / Gartenfeld .

In the runoff elections on June 21, 2009, Trier-Mitte / Gartenfeld, together with Mainz-Neustadt, received the first green mayor in Rhineland-Palatinate history. Today, all of Trier's inner city districts are occupied by the Green Mayor, as of 2019.
