Gut Mariahof

Mariahof is one of the 19 districts of the city of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

Mariahof is located in the countryside at an altitude of around 130 meters above the Moselle valley on the Mühlenberg, a terrace-like foothill of the Black Forest high forest . Thanks to its altitude of 230 to 265 meters, it offers a good view of the surroundings.

history

The name of the district goes back to the Hofgut Mariahof, which was called Kockelsberg until 1844 .

Mariahof was built in the early 1960s to the 1970s as a garden city settlement and is the youngest district in the city of Trier. The settlement was created according to a uniform plan and within fixed development boundaries. The characteristic features of the settlement include the even distribution of private homes, terraced houses and multi-storey apartment buildings, the uniform flat roof construction and its own district heating system. The modern, pyramid-like structure of the parish church of St. Michael, completed in 1970, is also unmistakable.

The district occupies an area of 7.04 square kilometers and had 3,031 inhabitants in 2013.

On 15./16. September 2012 the 50th anniversary of the garden city was celebrated with a district festival on the church square.

In addition to the garden city, the Trebetastraße high-rise estate, the historic Hofgut of the same name and the area of the Brubacher Hof south of the development are also part of the city district. As part of the new land use plan of the city of Trier, which is currently being discussed (2016), efforts are being made to use a large part of the meadows of the horse boarding house located in the courtyard building of the Brubacher Hof for a 40 hectare new building area - about the size of today's garden city .

The city of Trier has built 31 residential units in three three-story building complexes directly to the east of the listed Hofgut. The citizens of Mariahof had previously issued a petition with over 700 signatories against the development; however, this was rejected by the city council of Trier. Contrary to the original intention of accommodating asylum seekers and refugees, the previous tenants of the social housing from the 1970s are now to move into Mariahof, as these are to be renovated.

The area between Mariahof and Brubacher Hof was designated as a future building area according to the land use plan (FNP 2030). This designation is currently (2019) still highly controversial.

In the former Mattheiser Wald restricted area, the Mattheiser Wald nature reserve was also created as a local recreation area after the withdrawal of the French military .
