Filsch is one of the 19 districts of the city of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

Filsch is surrounded by meadows, forests and hills, the highest district of Trier and is located at the foot of the Schellberg in the southeast of the city, about seven kilometers from the center. For a long time Filsch was the smallest district of Trier with fewer than 1000 inhabitants. In the course of the 2010s, the number of inhabitants rose to over 1,500 due to new development areas. The village character of the old core of Filsch has been preserved to this day.

nature

To the north of Trier-Filsch there are some fallow vineyards that are known for the occurrence of some endangered animal species. The three reptile species smooth snake , slow worm and wall lizard occur here . Turtle dove , red-backed shrimp and green woodpecker breed here . The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig leads through the area . Cranes use the updrafts of the Schellberg and the Heidenkopf, especially when they retreat to the breeding areas.

history

Filsch was officially mentioned for the first time in 973 by Archbishop Theoderich I of Trier, who left the Filsch farm with six farms to the Benedictine Abbey of St. Marien . Filsch is one of the oldest villages in the Trier area. On June 7, 1969, the place gave up its independence and was incorporated into the city; at that time it had 360 inhabitants.
