Irsch is one of the 19 districts of the city of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate .
geography
Irsch is one of the high altitude districts of Trier. It lies between Kernscheid and Filsch on the south-eastern edge of the city. The local area includes the old town center Irsch with Irsch Castle, Irsch parish church, St. Georg kindergarten and the Trier-Irsch primary school, Irscher Mühle, Irscher Berg, the Trier-Irsch industrial area and the Trier high cemetery. Irsch is located in a hilly landscape and is surrounded by meadows and forests as well as agricultural areas. Several brooks run through the local area. The last foothills to the Olewiger Bach unite at the Irscher mill .
history
Irsch was first mentioned in a document from Emperor Otto II in 975, when the districts of Irsch, Hockweiler and Korlingen were transferred to the St. Martin Abbey in Trier. Although the document is regarded as fake in historical research, there is no doubt that it was part of the Trier Benedictine monastery of St. Martin. On June 7, 1969, the until then independent municipality Irsch was incorporated into the city of Trier; it had 991 inhabitants at that time.

Economy and Infrastructure
Two roads are of particular importance to Irsch. The Hunsrückstraße / L143 , which leads from the west to Trier-Olewig (and thus to the center of Trier ) and ends in the northeast in Trier-Filsch , runs north past the Irscher Mühle and provides the junction for the Irscher Berg and the old town center of Irsch to disposal. The coal road / L144, which leads past Irsch to the east, provides access to the nearest grocery store in the Trier-Tarforst district , to the Trier University, the Petrisberg and to the A 602 motorway junction via the Trier-Filsch junction to the north . To the south, the L143 leads past Korlingen (with a connection via Waldrach to the L151, Hunsrückhöhenstrasse and the A 1 ) past Gutweiler , Gusterath and Hockweiler through Pluwig in the direction of Kell am See and Hunsrückhöhenstrasse.
