Kernscheid is one of the 19 districts of the city ​​of Trier in Rhineland-Palatinate . Kernscheid is in the southeast of Trier on a ridge between Grundbach and Kandelbach. The district has retained its original village character to this day. It is surrounded by forests, meadows and fields.

Kernscheid is characterized by agriculture. Even today there are five full-time farms in the old town center, some with historic properties.

Since Filsch grew considerably in the 2010s through new development areas, Kernscheid has been Trier's smallest district in terms of inhabitants. A local supply of food is not guaranteed. There is also no bank or post office.

The municipality of Kernscheid was incorporated into Trier on June 7, 1969; it had 542 inhabitants at that time.
