The railway line Bläse kalkbrottet – Bläse hamnen (Bläse limestone quarry – Bläse Hafen) was a 2.2 km long narrow-gauge railway line near Kappelshamn on the Swedish island of Gotland .

history

Limestone has been quarried in the Bläse Kalkbruk quarry since 1860 and brought to the incinerators at the port. There the lime was burned, quenched and sent by sea as the basis for mortar, as was the raw broken stone itself. From 1893, three kilns were in operation, and in 1893 the railway line between the quarry and the lime factory or the port was built to supply them. At first the wagons were transported on horses, but a steam locomotive was procured as early as 1895 .

Lime burning was stopped in 1946. Until 1954, the railway was used to transport the broken limestone directly to the port. The rails were in place until 1972, when they were dismantled.

The entire system was transferred to the Stiftelsen Bläse Kalkbruk Industriminne Foundation in 1983 by the then owner Euroc . From this, the Museum Society was Bläse Kalkbruksmuseums Intresseförening , in addition to the lime kilns and the railway line in the track rebuilt 600 mm. The museum railway line has been in operation since 1991 . Today the fleet includes a DEMAG class ML 55 (B-dm, 2452/1939) diesel locomotive, which was originally used by the German Wehrmacht in the manufacture of heavy water in Rjukan , Norway , and via the Furillen lime works in Kema, Sweden came to the island. In 2002 there was also a steam locomotive (B, Orenstein & Koppel 12900/1937) in the still existing locomotive shed.
