The railway Cherry Mountain Jefferson is a former railroad in New Hampshire ( United States ). It is 5.6 kilometers long and connects Jefferson with the Whitefield Junction – Berlin railway line . The line is closed and dismantled.

history

After a hotel resort had been built in Jefferson, the Concord and Montreal Railroad wanted to build a direct connection there, as the existing railway line to Berlin ran about five kilometers south of the town. She therefore built a short branch line from Jefferson Station, which was also renamed Cherry Mountain, which was opened in 1895. In the same year, the Boston and Maine Railroad took over Concord & Montreal and with it the management. The route was only used in the summer season and mainly by passenger trains. The last train ran on June 27, 1921 and in 1925 the line was officially closed and then dismantled.

Route description

The line branches off the railway line to Berlin at Cherry Mountain station and initially runs northwards. At the Thayers Mills stop , the only stopover, it crosses the Israel River . The bridge is no longer there. The route continues north, but turns northwest just before Jefferson. Part of the route was built over by a golf course on the outskirts of Jefferson.
