The Israel River is a left tributary of the Connecticut River in Coös County of the US state New Hampshire .

The Israel River rises in the White Mountains at the foot of the Presidential Range northwest of Mount Adams . From there it flows in a predominantly west-northwest direction. The US Highway 2 in parts follows the river. The Israel River flows south past Jefferson , flows through the town of Lancaster and shortly afterwards flows into the Connecticut River. The Israel River has a length of 38 km. It drains an area of ​​347 km².

Naming

The river was named after the hunter and trapper Israel Glines . The Johns River , which runs south of the Israel River, was named after Israel's brother John.

Covered bridges

In Lancaster, the Mechanic Street Bridge spans the Israel River. The covered bridge was built in 1862.
