The railway Enfield Howland is a railway line in Maine ( United States ). It is 6.1 kilometers long. The standard-gauge , single-track line has been closed and dismantled.

The main line from Bangor to Mattawamkeag, opened in 1869, ran a few kilometers east of the Penobscot River at Enfield . At the tributary of the Piscataquis River west of the actual town of Enfield are the district of West Enfield (formerly Montague ) and the community of Howland , the latter, however, on the other side of the river, connected to the eastern bank by a bridge. Some local industry had settled in the two villages. In order to connect this industrial site to the main line, the Maine Central Railroad built a four-kilometer branch line that branches off at Enfield station and winds west to West Enfield. The terminus was on Main Street. The line went into operation around 1889 and was mainly used for freight traffic. The freight trains equipped with a passenger car ran only irregularly, and the trains were not published in official timetables.

In 1907 the line was extended by another two kilometers to the eastern bridgehead of the river bridge to Howland. The new line led to the west from the previous terminus in order to turn south just before the river. Howland terminus was on the west side of Main Street north of the bridge.

In 1963 the rail service between Enfield and Howland ended and the line was then closed and dismantled. The route is now a forest path.
