The Holdorf – Damme line was a seven-kilometer single-track line in Lower Saxony . It began in Holdorf (Oldb) on the Delmenhorst – Hesepe railway line . At the end point at Damme (Oldb) there was a transition to the Wittlager Kreisbahn .

history

On May 1, 1900, the railway line was opened by the Grand Ducal Oldenburg State Railways .

For many years, six pairs of passenger trains ran every day.

The freight traffic was originally oriented towards agriculture. In 1910 an iron ore deposit was found near Damme. In 1939 the Damme iron ore mine was established with its own three-track mine station. From 1914, the connection to the Wittlager Kreisbahn was established in Damme and freight wagons could be transferred.

Passenger traffic was discontinued on February 15, 1952. The connection to the Wittlager Kreisbahn in Damme was given up in 1963 when the Schwegermoor – Damme section was discontinued. In good times ten to twelve wagons were handed over here every day. In 1967 the Damme iron ore mine and with it the mine station were closed. Freight traffic from Holdorf to Damme was possible until December 31, 1993. The last customer in freight transport was the agricultural machinery manufacturer Grimme in Damme. Down the line was on January 1, 1996. As of 2000, the line was dismantled. The station building in Damme is used as the local city museum.

Bike path on the former route

In the meantime, a cycle path that was laid out in 2002 runs along the route ; in the area of the city of Damme, from the former level crossing opposite the school center, the remaining railway embankment has been partially built over or left to its own devices and has been overgrown since then . In Damme there is also the old railway bridge, over which the connection to the Wittlager Kreisbahn ran. The rails were also dismantled here and the railroad embankments adjoining the bridge are also overgrown or built over.
