The Ilo – Toquepala – Cuajone railway is a standard-gauge railway in southern Peru . It is operated by the Southern Copper Corporation and is used exclusively for freight transport from the port city of Ilo , where the copper smelter is located, to the Toquepala and Cuajone opencast mines .

The track length is 214 km, the total length of the tracks 257.8 km. The operation is carried out with locomotives of the classes EMD SD70 , EMD GP22ECO and GE U23B .

The 29 km branch from El Sargento to Cuajone runs mainly in tunnels. Tunnel # 4 is 14.724 km before the Mount Macdonald Tunnel, the longest rail tunnel in America. The other tunnels have lengths of 3,506 m (# 1), 5,384 m (# 2), 990 m (# 3) and 2,323 m (# 5).

Around 5 million t of goods are transported every year. The earthquake off Peru in 2001 , the track was damaged.
