The "old city" Baidicheng ( Chinese  白帝城 风景区 , Pinyin Báidìchéng fēngjǐngqū ) is a cultural monument in the east of Fengjie County , Chongqing , about 10 km from the seat of the county government. It was established in October 2004 as the "Baidicheng Landscape and Recreation Area". It has an area of 53.7 km² and more than 37,000 inhabitants. Administratively, Baidicheng is made up of a community of residents and eight villages, some of which belong to the Yong'an community and some to the Baidi community .

The most important attraction of the landscape and recreation area is Baidicheng, an old urban settlement on the north bank of the Yangtze River in the People's Republic of China . The name literally means "City of the White Emperor". It is said that the area was once surrounded by white fog, which gave it a mysterious yet peaceful look, much like an emperor should look. It is also said that some saw a white dragon coming from there, the symbol of the emperor, and the warlord Gongsun Shu ( 公孙述 ) († 36) considered this a symbol of good luck and declared himself Emperor of Chengjia. He founded the city and called himself the White Emperor. Because of the Three Gorges Dam , the buildings of the old city are now located on a small island that can be easily reached by boat from the city center of Chongqing.

Baidi is also known as the "City of Seals" because many poets, including the famous Li Bai , wrote about it. Some, like Du Fu , stayed there for a while.

In Baidi died Liu Bei , the first ruler of the kingdom of Shu Han of the Three Kingdoms period .

Since 2006 the old city has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Chongqing .
