Pelkhor Chöde
Pelkhor Chöde ( Tib . : dpal 'khor chos sde ; Chinese 白居寺 , Pinyin Báijū sì - "Baijiu Monastery"; also: Pango Chorten ) is a Buddhist monastery in Gyantse County in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .
The original buildings date back to 1427.
Pelkhor Chörten
The monastery is famous for its Kumbum (Tib .: sku 'bum ) - the largest chorten (Tib .: mchod rten ) Tibet - which was commissioned 1440th It has four floors with 108 chapels and over 10,000 murals.
Pelkhor hosted monks from the three main schools of Tibetan Buddhism: Sakya , Bodong and Gelug .
The monastery was badly damaged during the Chinese Cultural Revolution .
Pelkhor Chöde has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 1996 .
